Janelle Arthur Top 5

Janelle Arthur performs "When I Call Your Name" by Vince Gill and "Dumb Blonde" by Dolly Parton.

WHEN I CALL YOUR NAME by Vince Gill

Nicki Minaj thought that was the right approach. "When you have your guitar, you're so much more comfortable.", she noted, adding that she loved the key and Janelle's voice, which she described as "pretty and angelic".
Randy Jackson exclaimed, "Janelle's back where she belongs!"
Mariah Carey also praised the performance, saying, "You were singing with your whole heart."
Keith Urban was the lone hold out from the judges, saying that thought she sang it well, but he just didn't feel that she conveyed the emotion of the song as she could have, and he felt that she over-sang instead of letting the melody carry the the song as Vince Gill's version had.

DUMB BLONDE by Dolly Parton

The judges appeared less than impressed.
Randy Jackson said he thought it was a fun performance, but that the song was not really a vocal showcase, while Mariah Carey said she felt Janelle was connected to the song, calling it "cute" but saying that she understood Randy's criticism.
Keith Urban didn't feel it was a great song choice, saying, "I don't know that I would put 'Dumb Blonde' way up in the Dolly Parton songbook.
Nicki Minaj was more to the point, saying she felt that Janelle was in danger of going home as a result of the performance,. But she added that Janelle is so appealing as a performer that it's no reflection of how far she can go in the real-life marketplace.
